Nioh 3

Team Ninja’s Nioh 3 marks a huge return for the years, arriving nearly six years after the last title. A free demo is available now on PS5, and the trailer highlighted the new Ninja Style, but how does it work?

As it turns out, it’s one of two Styles that players can swap between at any time. The other is Samurai Style, allowing players to enhance their Martial Arts and Deflect attacks by blocking just before they connect. Comparatively, Ninja Style is more about unleashing quick movements like Evade for “narrowly avoiding enemy strikes” and Ninjutsu, like Mist, to create a clone after an attack.

While you can stick to a single one throughout, they can be switched instantly at any time, which may help against certain foes. And even with how challenging the previous titles could be, Team Ninja is promising “some of the fiercest enemies we’ve created to date!”

It also offers some new details on the open field levels, which provide “a new freedom of exploration to the unique tension and confrontations that have become a defining characteristic of the Nioh series.” While not exactly an open world, you can explore villages, uncover secrets and battle Yokai with more freedom than before. And if that wasn’t enough, The Crucible also returns.

Nioh 3 will be available for PS5 and PC in early 2026. Stay tuned for updates in the meantime.
