NPD June Figures

Posted By | On 16th, Jul. 2010

The NPD June figures are out, and my oh my, Xbox 360 is this month’s largest selling home console, and is in second place overall, the DS being in the first. The Xbox 360 has sold 451,700 units in June. As opposed to May’s 20% in hardware sales, the new Xbox 360 Slim model gave aboost to the market, and the overall hardware sales increased 5%. This being the Xbox 360’s second best holiday season month ever, the best being when Halo 3 was released, Microsft must be pretty happy with how things are turning out.

The DS retained its strong hold, though, and topped the charts again with 510,700 units sold. The PlayStation 3 and the PSP finished second last and last respetively, but Sony should be pretty happy nonetheless, this being their home console’s eleventh consecutive month of year-over-year unit increases.

“Hardware sales saw a notable uptick from May on an average sales per week basis, and all three current gen console systems saw unit sales increases over last year; in particular, the Xbox 360 and the PS3,” NPD analyst Anita Frazier said. “The Xbox 360 experienced its second largest non-holiday month after September ’07 when Halo 3 launched, and the PS3 has now garnered 11 consecutive months of year-over-year unit sales increases.”

In software sales, the Xbox 360 version of Rockstar’s much acclaimed Red Dead Redemption topped tha charts again, with 582,900 units sold. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was not far behind. It finished it second place with 548,400 copies sold.

Surprisingly, the recently released PSP megaton, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and other games like Transformers: War for Cybertron and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, failed to make it to the Top 10 NDP Software List.

On this, Fraizer said, “The new Tiger Woods release sold only 32 percent of what last year’s release sold in its introductory month at retail. That said, last year’s game saw a huge sales increase over previous versions, but still, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 did not break into the top 10 games for the month.”

Here are the NPD Sales Figures in their entirety.
