At CES this morning during their press conference, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced new laptops using the company’s RTX GPUs. These laptops are all due to launch by the end of this month, and are being manufactured by third party OEMs (meaning Nvidia themselves are not putting out any of them).
These laptops will pack a punch—for instance, the MSI GS65 Stealth will come with a GTX 2080, and will be twice as powerful as a PS4 Pro, in a form factor that ends up being only a third as big. Huang also compared the laptop off handedly to “next generation consoles”. I feel like that may have been more of a casual quip to demonstrate the power of the laptop; I highly doubt that the next generation will “only” be twice as powerful as a PS4 Pro, so to say (according to a developer, the consoles will have twice as much memory when VRAM and RAM are combined as current generation consoles do).
Anyway, for those of you who like gaming on the go, but want something packed with a lot of power, these laptops seem like they may be the way to go—assuming they don’t cost an arm and a leg like gaming laptops usually do, at any rate.
