Following recent rumours, Nvidia has officially unveiled DLSS 4.5 for its RTX-series graphics cards. Powered by a new second-generation transformer, this update to DLSS 4 will bring improvements to Super Resolution, as well as a major new feature—Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. Check out the announcement video below alongside quality comparisons for Black Myth: Wukong, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

This new method of frame generation, exclusive to RTX 50-series graphics cards, allows for up to five generated frames for each traditionally rendered frame. Through this, Nvidia claims that frame rates on supported games can even transcend 240 FPS.

Dynamic Multi Frame Generation offers a 6X multiplier over the previous versions of Multi Frame Generation, which could go up to 4X. In terms of raw numbers, Nvidia has noted that frame rates in path-traced titles running at 4K can increase by up to 35 percent. Along with this, updates to Frame Generation have also brought in improvements to in-game UI elements across various titles.

The feature also works as “an intelligent system” that can better sync the graphics card’s output with the display. It means additional frames will only be generated if they are actually needed, depending on whether the user’s display runs at refresh rates of 120 Hz, 144 Hz, 240 Hz, or even higher. This is achieved through the system monitoring the gap between the GPU’s performance and the display’s refresh rate in real-time, and automatically “upshifting” the frame generation to bridge performance dips.

As for the improvements to Super Resolution, DLSS 4.5 uses five times the compute power of the original transformer-based model first introduced in DLSS 4, thanks to being trained on an expanded dataset. According to Nvidia, the new version of Super Resolution “has a deeper understanding in every scene, and more intelligently uses game engine pixel sampling and motion data to deliver images that have better lighting, finer edges, and improved motion clarity.”

Going into more detail, Nvidia has explained that the new transformer model leaves behind the logarithmic techniques of previous versions of DLSS Super Resolution, which tended to clip details and crush shadows in high-contrast scenes. DLSS 4.5’s Super Resolution, on the other hand, can infer details directly in linear space thanks to the power behind the new AI model. The company has noted that this model does come with a performance tradeoff compared to the first transformer-based version of Super Resolution, but this tradeoff is apparently minor.

DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution is now available thanks to the latest update in the Nvidia app, where users can select the DLSS model presets. The “Latest” preset includes the new features, and there is also a new Ultra Performance Mode made for use at 4K under the “Custom” preset option. Dynamic Multi Frame Generation will launch in Spring 2026 and will be available exclusively to RTX 50-series users. At launch, the feature will support more than 250 games and apps through the Nvidia app.
