Square Enix has clearly landed on a very successful formula with its HD-2D RPGs, and it’s no surprise that the company has no plans of slowing down. Octopath Traveler was, of course, the game that started it all, and following up on its impressive critical and commercial success, Square Enix and Nintendo have now announced a full-fledged sequel.
Octopath Traveler 2 took the spotlight during the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, showcasing more the gorgeous HD-2D graphics that its predecessor was widely praised for. Players can expect eight new characters with new stories that’ll intersect with each other, with the story being set in a new era, and in a new world. Meanwhile, an interesting new mechanic is also being introduced, which will see the paths of each character’s story being affected by the time of day. Check out the announcement trailer below.
Octopath Traveler 2 launches for the Nintendo Switch on February 24, 2023.
Square Enix has confirmed that the RPG will also launch day and date for PS5, PS4, and PC (via Steam), with new details on its gameplay mechanics, characters, world, and more also having been unveiled. Read more on that through here.
