Concerned about the price point for Oculus Rift for which pre-orders recently went live at $599 for the United States and £499/€699 in Europe? Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey took to Twitter to address criticisms of Rift being overpriced, noting that when it comes to international pricing, there were certain requirements that had to be fulfilled.

“International Rift prices are not artificially bloated – we have to cover the required taxes, sales tax in USA works differently. In fact, some countries are getting a slightly better deal than the US, all things considered – remember, we have per state sales tax.”

Luckey also noted that, “To reiterate, we are not making money on Rift hardware. High end VR is expensive, but Rift is obscenely cheap for what it is.”

It also seems that some orders “may see their ship date move forward as fraudulent orders in queue are weeded out.”

What are your thoughts on the pricing for Oculus Rift? Let us know in the comments.
