With Death Stranding 2: On the Beach now out of the way, director Hideo Kojima has revealed that work on one of his next projects – a horror game dubbed OD – is under way. In an interview with Ssense, Kojima spoke about the title, placing quite a bit of emphasis on the fact that he is more curious about how people will see the game years after it’s out rather than what its reception is like at launch.

While Kojima hasn’t really provided more details on what exactly we can expect from OD, he has described the title as being “something totally different”. He also said that he expects it to be an incredibly divisive game, noting that “people will love it or hate it.”

Kojima also spoke about being excited to see the kinds of discussions that OD will spark, noting that he will be reading all social media posts, YouTube videos, and even reviews when the game comes out. However, he doesn’t really care about the reception of the title at launch. Rather, he is more interested in how people feel about the horror game a decade or two later.

“The real evaluations come after—10 or 20 years from now,” he said.

OD was unveiled all the way back in December 2023, and is slated to be an Xbox-exclusive horror game that is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and MetaHuman technology. The title is also going to make use of cloud technology courtesy of Microsoft’s infrastructure. No other details about OD have been revealed so far, however.
