Capcom is out in full force for Gamescom Opening Night Live with some new gameplay for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Launching next year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, it sees protagonist Miyamoto Musashi battling all manner of Genma.

Demonic swordsman are the least of your troubles, even if they’re more than a match for Musashi’s skills. There are also gelatinous masses with multiple faces that multiply when you slice them in half. A legendary Yokai, Nue, subsequently appears, raining down lightning. Stabbing it in the face seems like the right strategy, except when it starts dragging Musashi around.

Alongside the katana for deflecting and executing enemies, players can wield a bow and arrow to detonate explosive barrels, and a twinblade staff that can generate a powerful fiery whirlwind. Expect to see even more in the months leading up to launch.

Of course, despite the Souls-like similarities, Capcom has assured that it’s not, and won’t be open-world either. Head here for even more gamelpay.
