One game really took a lot of us by surprise this year with Outer Wilds. The indie game has found itself on many Game of the Year lists and is generally beloved by most who play it. Now, the title gets a special highlight with a documentary from the good folks at NoClip that gives us a breakdown of how the game was made.
You can check out the video below. In it the developers talk about how they put the game together, particularly how they decided to make each of the several worlds the game has you go to. Each one is designed as a type of puzzle that the team put a huge amount of thought into. Interestingly, they also offer a bit of an apology for one of the game’s most infamous puzzles, as well as explain the game as a sort of reaction to negative feelings about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. The documentary is just under an hour and well worth the watch.
Outer Wilds is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For more on the game, Outer Wilds level designer and producer Loan Verneau gave us more details in an interview that you can read through here.
