Overwatch Competitive Play Receiving Changes to Prevent Trolling

Planning on messing with the winning team? It won't have much effect soon.

If you’ve found it odd at times that you’d win several matches in a row in Overwatch‘s Competitive Play and your Skill Rating wouldn’t rise all that much, then rest assured that Blizzard is working on it. Changes are coming and these will especially help stop players from trolling the winning teams.

Blizzard noted on the forums that, “Right now, the way system works is that if your team is favored to win, you will gain less Skill Rating for a win and lose more Skill Rating for a loss. And if your team is NOT favored to win, you will gain more Skill Rating for a win and lose less Skill Rating for a loss.

“Previously, if a player from either team left mid-match, the game would automatically recalculate each team’s probability of winning. The assumption was that if a team was a person down, the odds of them winning would go down, too, and that the most accurate thing we could do was account for this when adjusting each player’s Skill Rating at the end of the match.”

It didn’t quite go that well and feedback noted that it “didn’t feel great and that it incentivized bad leaver behavior.

“As a result, the game will no longer recalculate each team’s probability of winning whenever one or more people leave, and instead will scale off the probability originally established at the beginning of the match (just as it would if there were no leavers).”

So when changes are made, it will at least stop the mid-match trolling. Blizzard also noted that Sudden Death wouldn’t be present in Season 2 of Competitive Play and ties would take place instead. What are your thoughts on Competitive Play as a whole in Overwatch? Let us know in the comments.
