Blizzard Entertainment’s third season of Competitive Play for Overwatch is finally live and it kicks off with a number of changes. You’ll still be taking part in placement matches for a rank and earning points to purchase the golden weapons. However, your rank will now be decided in a different way.

After season 2 saw a huge number of Gold and Platinum rank players, which led to players “initially achieving inappropriately high skill ratings and then experiencing a downward adjustment within the first few matches of the season,” Blizzard is working on spacing them out more accordingly.

You’ll hence face more varied competition in Gold and Platinum tiers and ratings will be better distributed across tiers. “Many players will be ranked lower than expected after their Season 3 placement matches; however, this should normalise as the season progresses.”

We’ll see how this goes but in the meantime, what are your thoughts on season 3, especially with all the different changes to characters and the addition of Sombra? Let us know in the comments.
