Overwatch Dev Will Detail Updated Punishment System “Soon”

Harsher punishment likely coming for throwers and leavers.

Taking part in Overwatch’s Competitive Play can be an exercise in frustration. If you’re on console, you have to deal with no reporting system if someone is throwing or intentionally trying to lose a match. If you’re on PC, then throwers and leavers will sometimes carry over from season to season. This has caused frustration among players who feel the “Report” system does nothing.

However, it does silence the offensive player. At least, it used to. In response to an official forum post, director Jeff Kaplan said that, “It doesn’t anymore. It hasn’t done this for some time.”

He then noted that, “There is a post coming about updates to the punishment system coming soon.” After the whole controversy surrounding pro player Dafran, this could be Blizzard’s way of showing fans a more hardline stance on throwers.

What are your thoughts on all of this? Do you even play Overwatch Competitive any more? Let us know in the comments below.
