Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch received more than 100 new cosmetic items in its latest update (which also brought the new Escort map Blizzard World). They include sprays, skins, highlight intros, emotes, victory poses and much more. They’re available in the regular loot boxes as well, which means players have all the time in the world to unlock them.
The problem is that since they’re non-event cosmetics, the chances of you getting a new skin isn’t nearly as high. Amidst complaints of the new skins not unlocking for players – especially those who spent money on loot boxes for the same – Blizzard has clarified their odds on Twitter.
“The loot box odds have not changed. Please keep in mind that unlike during events you’re not guaranteed to get a new item in every box. These items went into the pool of all available items in the base loot box.”
Blizzard actually implemented a system last year to cut down on the number of duplicates players receive. That being said, even if you’re a prestige level or two into the game, the chances of actually having all the cosmetics unlocked and thus getting the new stuff from loot boxes alone is low. Throw in the already low chances for some of these skins and you’re looking at a fairly long grind unless you have credits to spare.
