Overwatch Lunar New Year event

Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch will see its Lunar New Year event aka “Year of the Dog” starting on February 8th. In a new development update, director Jeff Kaplan offered more information on what fans could expect. For instance, Capture the Flag is making its return with a new map called “Ayutthaya” set in Thailand.

Capture the Flag has also been changed to have no draws. Instead, there will be a sudden death round where flags are moved to the center of the map, thus making them easier to bring back to one’s base. Picking up the flag is now instant but using some abilities – like Winston’s jump – will drop it.

If that weren’t enough, there will be a Competitive season and top 500 ranking for Capture the Flag similar to Lucioball. Those who place in the ranks will receive different special sprays and icons. As a result, the Lunar New Year event will last for four weeks.

In terms of skins, there will be six new Legendary skins with Mercy and Genji confirmed to receive the same. Widowmaker is also receiving a new skin but it’s not confirmed whether it’s Legendary or Epic. Finally, one hero will be receiving a “cool” highlight intro according to Kaplan.
