Overwatch PTR Download is Prepping For Patch 1.14

Upcoming patch will include "hero balance changes" and "file format changes".

It seems like a day doesn’t pass without some kind of announcement for Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch. With Doomfist currently added to the game and the next event rumoured to be Summer Games, Blizzard has its hands in several pies. So when players noticed that the Public Test Realm version of the game downloaded a whopping 4.18 GB in the background, it made them wonder what was coming next.

Blizzard’s Bill Warnecke addressed this on Reddit, noting that the download was to prep the test server for patch 1.14. “The 1.14 PTR includes some hero balance changes like Geoff Goodman has spoken about on the Overwatch forums, but also contains some file format changes which is why the patch is so large,” said Warnecke. Those changes will likely involve buffs to underrated defense hero Junkrat and off-tank Roadhog, both who’ve not been seeing a lot of play in the current meta.

Warnecke continued by saying that, “We’re using the background downloader so we don’t overload the client distribution servers with such a large patch, and instead let it roll out slowly over the next couple days. We’re looking forward to seeing you on the 1.14 PTR!”

At the very least, you can expect patch 1.14 to arrive on the Public Test Realm server within a week or so. This is exclusive to PC players of Overwatch so pick up a copy today if you’re inclined to try upcoming changes in advance.
