Overwatch Summer Games

It’s that time of the year again as Blizzard Entertainment announces the return of the Summer Games event to Overwatch. As a recent tweet indicated, Lucio Ball will be returning, and we might be getting a new map to play on this year. Will Competitive Lucio Ball return? It seems likely.

Summer Games 2018 begins on August 9th and as usual, one should expect event-exclusive Loot Boxes to make a return. They’ll contain new sprays, skins, voice lines, emotes, victory poses and more. Summer Games 2016 focused more on the sports aspect, especially since it arrived around the 2016 Summer Olympics. Last year’s event had a beach theme by comparison.

Regardless of what this year presents, expect previous years’ event cosmetics to be discounted. A Legendary skin that would cost 3,000 Credits could retail for 1,000 Credits instead. This will be thrown into the Loot Box pool, so it’s the luck of the draw. Thankfully, it’s possible to earn a decent amount of free Loot Boxes each week via Arcade Mode. Make sure to grind a fair bit since these cosmetics can only be earned while the event is ongoing.
