The origin story for Blizzard Entertainment’s newest Overwatch hero, Baptiste, went live yesterday. It hasn’t take too long for players – at least, on PC – to try him out. The developer has confirmed that Baptiste is now officially live on the Public Test Realm server. Simply navigate to the “Region” tab in the Battle.net launcher if you own the game on PC and download the PTR build.
Baptiste, whose full name is Jean-Baptiste Augustin, is a DPS/Support hybrid hero. He packs a three round burst rifle that also works as a Biotic Launcher, shooting healing projectiles to those near the impact radius. Regenerative Burst allows for self-healing and healing nearby teammates over time. Immortality Field is probably the craziest ability – it’s a device that outright prevents allies within it from dying (though it can be destroyed).
Finally, there’s his Ultimate, “Amplification Matrix”. Lay it down and any damage or healing that passes through it will be doubled. Baptiste also has the ability to jump higher by crouching beforehand. Check out director Jeff Kaplan discussing Baptiste’s abilities in the latest developer update below.
