Path of Exile 2

As it gears up for its biggest update yet in Return of the Ancients, Path of Exile 2 has even bigger plans for the end of the year. Game director Jonathan Rogers confirmed that patch 0.5.0 will be the last before the action RPG exits early access. And it seems that’s happening later this year, specifically after ExileCon on November 7th to 8th.

“We don’t have a date for you,” Rogers revealed in a press event attended by PC Gamer, “but it will be a little bit after ExileCon, which is in November.” He later told the publication that a potential mini-league or “two” alongside balance updates will continue to roll out, but the focus is on the full release.

“I want to get this game finished. I really, really do. It’s definitely something that I’ve been looking forward to for a very long time. So I want to just get back to regular league development and not have all this other stuff going on.”

There are some caveats, of course. While all the current classes will receive their Ascendancies and the last campaign Acts will go live, the rest of the promised classes won’t be ready. And if you were annoyed at the lack of swords until now, there’s a chance they’ll skip 1.0 as well.

It’s still an incredible amount of content, though, buoyed further by Return of the Ancients, which completely overhauls the endgame. New quests will guide players towards powerful bosses and ease them into mechanics like Expeditions, Abyss, and so on, much more easily. Two Ascendancies, the Spirit Walker and Martial Artist, will be added, and there are over 40 new Uniques to play around with.

That’s not even counting the brand new league, Runes of Aldur, which introduces a brand new way to craft and further augment one’s gear while also adding new skills. Return of the Ancients goes live on May 29th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
