It’s been a long slow process for Payday 3, Starbreeze’s latest sequel in the acclaimed heist franchise. But it appears that development is making some headway. The official Payday 2 Twitter confirmed that the game is in the design phase and will run on Unreal Engine.

Unfortunately, the release date is still “TBA” and we still don’t know if it’s coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S or planned to be a cross-gen title. Production began as far back as February 2017 but even in October 2019, the company said that fans would have to wait a long time for it. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, plans for publishing Payday 3 had faced some snags back in May.

Nevertheless, it’s in the works, though why Starbreeze decided to tease it again now is unknown. Perhaps a bigger announcement is coming in the next few months? Stay tuned for more details as always. Payday 2 is currently available for PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo Switch.
