Persona 3 Reload_02

Last week was another big one for major new releases, with RPG fans in particular being treated to the one-two punch of Persona 3 Reload and Granblue Fantasy: Relink– both of which have got off to solid starts in Japan, as per weekly physical sales data released by Famitsu.

Persona 3 Reload was the best-selling game of the week, selling a total of over 116,000 copies across PS5 and PS4, with the PS5 version sitting on top of the charts (over 76,000 units sold) and the PS4 version slotting in at No. 3 (over 40,000 units sold).

For context, however, though the game’s debut in Japan isn’t anything to scoff at, it is, perhaps, softer than some may have expected, having sold less than both Persona 5 Royal and Persona 5 Strikers did upon their respective releases in Japan. Then again, Atlus recently announced that Persona 3 Reload sold over a million units worldwide in its first week, making it the developer’s biggest launch to date.

Fellow newly-released RPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink was the week’s second-biggest seller. It sold over 48,000 units on PS5 (ranked No. 2 in the charts) and over 22,000 units on PS4 (which is placed No. 5), collectively selling over 70,000 units. That’s less than what 2.5D fighter Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising managed upon its release in December (over 86,000 units), but again, we know it’s doing well worldwide, so there’s that.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which saw an impressive chart-topping debut last week, has moved down to the seventh and eighth positions, with its PS5 and PS4 versions selling over 16,000 units and over 15,000 units respectively.

On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch is back to being the week’s leader, having sold over 41,000 units over the course of the week, while the PS5 follows behind with over 34,000 units sold.
