Earlier this week, Nintendo finally announced a new President for the company, to replace Satoru Iwata, after his passing in July. Tatsumi Kimishima, the former head of Nintendo of America, and one who is in tune with the global market (he famously predicted that the Wii U would bomb- the only person within Nintendo to do so), who takes over the reigns of the company for a year.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer, at least, seems to be confident about Kimishima’s prospects. “I don’t know him but Nintendo is great gaming with amazing track record. I’m sure he’ll do great; I wish him well,” Spencer said, in response to a question on Twitter.
Kimishima, on his part, has confirmed that he plans to stay the course, and not deviate too much from the groundwork that Iwata laid down for the next few years. This includes the launch of the new NX console, Nintendo’s expansion into mobile gaming, as well as character and IP licensing initiatives, such as theme parks, movies, TVs, and Amiibo.
