Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass already looks like a strong deal for Xbox One owners, especially with access to more than 100 games at a given time for the monthly fee of $9.99. But Xbox boss Phil Spencer wants it to become something more.
On Major Nelson’s podcast, Spencer said that, “There is an opportunity here to not just be about games that have already shipped. I would actually like to see this grow into a program where you can see frontline games/first shipped games come into Xbox Game Pass as a way to get distributed”.
Spencer compared it to Netflix and how eventually the service went on to become even bigger. “I think we have seen this in the TV Space with Netflix. At first Netflix was all about movies and TV Shows that I might have missed. Now some of the best TV out there is being made as a Netflix original”.
Whether episodic and story games actually have a chance to shine on Game Pass remains to be seen but Spencer is gung-ho about this being more than your typical subscription service. What are your thoughts on Xbox Game Pass and will you be signing up for it? Let us know below.
