Pikmin 4, Nintendo’s long-awaited follow-up in the action strategy series, is finally out on Nintendo Switch this month. While an overview trailer from the recent Nintendo Direct spotlighted its new features, a recent video provides some pointers for those jumping in for the first time. Check it out below.

At its core, Pikmin 4 is a strategy game. Upon landing on the planet, you pluck Pikmin from the ground and use a whistle to order them around. You can throw them, which is good for attacking some enemies, or command them to carry objects, dig for treasure and whatnot. When Pikmin die, you can grow new ones.

Each Pikmin has different strengths. Red Pikmin are strong and fire-resistant, while Blue Pikmin can breathe underwater, and Yellow Pikmin are good with electricity and can shock enemies. You also have Pink Pikmin that can lift objects overhead and Black Pikmin, good at shattering walls. There’s also Oatchi, who can fight enemy creatures and serves as a mount/boat for you and your Pikmin.

Pikmin 4 is out on July 21st for Nintendo Switch. A free demo is available now via the Nintendo eShop, with progress carrying over to the game.
