PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Sees First Steam Player Decline

With the Battle Royale shooter being such a runaway success since about March 2017, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been at the top of the world for nearly a year at this point. So perhaps it’s natural that after some meteoric rise, eventually it would be in for a slight fall.

It was noticed through Steamspy that for the first time since the game hit mainstream success last year, the shooter has seen about 1.74% of its player base drop off the map within the last 30 days, accounting for about 27,000 players. A not insignificant number even for such a huge game.

It’s uncertain what could be stymying the growth of the game, but the anti-cheating systems that the developers are putting in place, one of which means the end of Steam Game Sharing for the title might have something to do with the drop off.
