The Thing
Not all games based on movies do well. But 2002’s The Thing took that fact to the cleaners. Based on John Carpenter’s 1982 block buster of the same name, The Thing was noted for its amazing team management mechanic system for its time. Keeping an eye on the emotions of your team mates and making sure that they are alright by providing them with all they need will result in to making them trust you or otherwise. Depending on how you deal with your team mates, they will run away, shoot you and your own team mates or will kill themselves. Featuring a spooky atmosphere and weapons, one can say games like Dead Space is “The Thing” of this generation. Konami were the ones who published this game and we hope this franchise sees the light some day.
Tenchu
With its unique take on feudal Japan, Tenchu was an underrated ninja based stealth game according to me. The series has hit every major platform till date and even made its next generation appearance of the Xbox 360 in the form of Tenchu Z, but surprisingly the franchise which saw a good chunk of sequels on the PlayStation 2 had no release on the PlayStation 3. I think a new release will definitely up the ante for the stealth based genre because Tenchu has all the right elements of making one. First of all it’s based on Ninja’s so the environments, the way they move, the air and the life around them can certainly pop some interesting gameplay mechanics.
Shadow of Rome
I have no idea why Capcom did not build on some great games of yester year and converted them in to franchises. Shadow of Rome was one such example which was set in Rome with a plot that was loosely centred on the murder of Julius Caesar. The reason why I got in the game was the way you can simply butcher your enemies in to pieces and use those pieces to take other enemies, not to mention the unique stealth elements and an interesting plot to back it up. Given how Capcom in the past are really pushing a zombie chopping game like Dead Rising, a reimagination of Shadow of Rome won’t hurt them.
Fatal Frame
If there was any video game series that made me jump off my seat and switch off the TV than it has to be the Fatal Frame franchise from Tecmo. There have been several games in the franchise which have always played with scary themes like exorcism and the age old Japanese Shinto rituals. What surprises me is the fact that there is no Fatal Frame for the PlayStation 3. A new Fatal Frame game is expected to be released this year but it’s only on the Wii. Tecmo has just gone down this generation, not to mention the awful Quantum Theory released last year. Our fingers crossed for a Fatal Frame game on more powerful machines.
