Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has confirmed to the Financial Times that PlayStation 4 Neo is indeed in development. A release date and price won’t be announced just yet and it won’t be showcased at E3 but it will be more expensive than the current $350 PS4 mode.

Meant for hardcore gamers and those with 4K TVs, PS4 Neo “is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4. We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle.

“We want to ensure we have a full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can showcase in their entirety,” he said.

As for whether there would be issues between the two different hardware variants, House noted, “All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4.”

Thoughts on Sony finally confirming what’s been known for months? Let us know in the comments below.
