PlayStation 4 Sales Cross 53.4 Million Units Worldwide

Up from 50 million sold as of December 6th.

Sony CEO Kaz Hirai announced during the company’s presentation at CES 2017 that the PlayStation 4’s sales have crossed 53.4 million units worldwide.

It was also noted that the console sold 6.2 million units between November 21st to January 1st with software sales during this period passing 50.4 million units. With 50 million consoles reported sold worldwide on December 6th, the holiday season offered quite the strong increase for the PS4 heading into the New Year.

Though PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro sales were likely included with the overall worldwide figure, Sony hasn’t revealed how much they contributed to the total. And though Hirai noted at CES 2017 that PlayStation VR was selling well, actual sales figures weren’t provided. There are still plenty of VR titles inbound so the headset is far from dead.

What are your thoughts on the PS4’s success since launching in 2013 and how much higher could it climb before 2017 is over? Share your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more updates.
