Yesterday, we reported that the next major update for Sony’s PS4, firmware update 7.00, is in beta and invites are going out now (so check your emails if you haven’t). It seems the update was more than meets the eye however, as many users discovered there was something not advertised in the inclusion of a HDR tuner.
In the email that sent out beta codes, Sony mentioned that the update had the ability to update without rebooting as well as increasing party member size. No mention was made of a HDR tuner, but it’s been discovered that one is included in the update that helps to adjust the brightness and darkness of your HDR setting. It seems a lot of the footage showcasing this is getting taken down at the moment, but some posters at a popular gaming forum have posted screenshots of the tuning in action.
Why Sony didn’t mention this is a bit strange, since this could be a pretty big feature. While the Pro uses HDR, the results have been slightly mixed, and a lot of games that have in-game HDR tuners aren’t particularly great either. We should get more details when the full update goes live.
