A new State of Play presentation was announced by Sony for August 6th. While the hype machine seemed to be rolling again, the company clarified that no major PS5 announcements would be made, whether it was regarding price or pre-orders. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be other announcements potentially coming this month.

Following Sony’s recent financial results, Bloomberg spoke to an anonymous official at the PlayStation Unit who revealed that the next PS5 announcement was “tentatively scheduled” for August. Not much else was stated, unfortunately. It’s also worth noting the “tentatively” part of the statement – Sony could easily move up whatever announcement it has planned.

If it doesn’t, said announcement would align well with Gamescom 2020 which starts on August 27th and ends on August 30th. Recently, Sony unveiled new details on which peripherals would work on the PS5, confirming that DualShock 4 controllers would only support PS4 games on the next-gen console. What could the next announcement bring? Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.
