Playtonic Reiterates It’s Not Working On A New Banjo-Kazooie Game

"We don't like the idea of fans getting their hopes up," says the developer.

As one of the most beloved classic 3D platforming properties of its age, questions about if and when Banjo-Kazooie will be making its grand return are always a dime a dozen, but since the duo’s recent appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, those questions have been even more commonly raised. And these days, more often than not the developer most frequently attached to such questions and rumours is Playtonic.

Being composed of several former Rare staff and working on games that have a very classic Rare-like bent to them, Playtonic seem great fits for a new Banjo title- but the developer has re-iterated that it’s not working on any such project. Taking to Twitter, Playtonic quashed those hopes, saying that these are simply rumours, and stating in no vague terms that it is not working on a new Banjo game.

“We’re clarifying this because we don’t like the idea of fans getting their hopes up,” they wrote. “Sorry.”

This follows from a similar explicit denial from the studio in November last year that it was not working on a new Banjo game after rumours about the same started heating up.

So there you have it- if a new Banjo game is indeed in development (and that’s a pretty big if), Playtonic are definitely not the ones working on it. Keep hope alive though, right? It will happen one day. Maybe. Probably.
