Pokemon GO Has Made $1.8 Billion Since Launch

It is currently making $70 million a month.

Let no one ever tell you that Pokemon GO ever died down. While we already know that the game is now at its most popular since the initial rush and popularity died down, the scale of its success can be a bit hard to fathom for some. So, here goes, okay?

According to SensorTower, an analyst and research firm that studied the mobile game, Pokemon GO has made a staggering $1.8 billion since its launch two years ago, meaning it is averaging $900 million a year- almost as much as GTA Online does. More context- to gross $1.8 billion, a full price console game would have to sell 30 million copies. It’s an absolutely insane number. Currently, the game, which continues to chart in the Top 10 charts by revenue, is making an average of $70 million a month– which is an incredible amount.

The bulk of this revenue has come from the United States, with Japan in second place as the second biggest market for this game. Germany, Great Britain, and Taiwan round out the top five, trailing behind US and Japan at a great distance.

Pokemon GO is available now on iOS and Android smartphones. It will be interesting to see whether or not the game’s ongoing success has any positive effect on Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, both due out on Nintendo Switch on November 16.
