Let’s put the Pokedex controversy on hold for a moment, regardless of how satisfied you may or may not be with Game Freak’s response to it- because there’s an actual game coming to look forward to with the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield. We’ve already seen and learned plenty of the Dynamax battles, which also plays into the game’s new raids, but now, with another new trailer, the developers have unveiled another new mechanic- Gigantamaxing.

Gigantamaxing – ridiculous name notwithstanding – looks like a pretty cool mechanic. Similar to Dynamaxing, it greatly enlarges the Pokemon, but unlike Dynamaxing, it also completely changes their appearances- sort of like Mega Evolutions in that regard. Beyond Gigantamaxing, the new trailer also introduces some new characters – including new Gym Leaders – and Pokemon- a couple of the latter look pretty cool. There’s also new glimpses of the Galar Pokemon League. Take a look below.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is out exclusively on Nintendo Switch later this year, on November 15. Stay tuned for all the latest details.
