"Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise," says senior producer Abdelhak Elguess.

A recent report claimed that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’s development team had been disbanded by Ubisoft, and that a pitch for a sequel to the acclaimed sidescrolling Metroidvania action-adventure title had been rejected by the company. Now, at least the former half of that report has been confirmed by Ubisoft.

Taking to Twitter via the official Prince of Persia account, the company shared a message from Abdelhak Elguess, who was senior producer on The Lost Crown. In his message, Elguess confirmed that with post-launch support for the game having wrapped up, the focus for Ubisoft now is on bringing the game to more platforms – with a Steam launch behind us and a Mac release incoming – while the development team itself has “shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise.” Elguess’ message also assured that Ubisoft will “bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future.”

“I’m extremely proud of our team’s work and passion at Ubisoft Montpellier to create a game that resonated with players and critics alike, and I am confident in its long-term success,” Elguess’ message reads. “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now at the end of its post-launch roadmap with three free content updates and once DLC that released in September. We are now focusing on making the game available to more players: it was recently launched on Steam, and will be available on Mac by this winter.

“Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise. We know players have a love for this brand and Ubisoft is excited to bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future.”

In spite of receiving widespread critical acclaim upon its release in January, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has failed to enjoy commercial success to match, reportedly having managed to sell just a million units thus far.

As per reports, The Lost Crown’s dev team shifted to three other Ubisoft projects in Beyond Good and Evil 2, the next Ghost Recon, and Rayman remake. Where the latter is concerned, though there’s no official announcement yet, Ubisoft has confirmed that it has “started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand”. Read more on that through here.

Though a sequel to The Lost Crown looks unlikely at this point, Prince of Persia fans do still have other things to look forward to. Roguelike action game The Rogue Prince of Persia is currently in early access on Steam, while a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is also due out in 2026.
