Take-Two Interactive’s indie publishing label Private Division has announced the acquisition of Roll7, the indie team best known for the 2D sidescrolling skateboarding series, OlliOlli. No details have been revealed about the purchase where price is concerned, but the deal doesn’t come as much of a surprise, especially seeing as the studio had signed on with Private Division for a publishing deal last year.
That publishing deal, of course, concerns OlliOlli World, the game that Roll7 is currently working on. The announcement of the studio’s acquisition claims that Private Division will support and empower Roll7 as the studio continues working on its “signature flow state gaming experiences.” What the team has in the works beyond the upcoming OlliOlli World remains to be seen though. Earlier this year though, Roll7 did receive an injection of funds from Kowloon Nights for an unannounced game. Read more on that through here.
Michael Worosz, executive vice president and head of Private Division, said about the acquisition: “We’re thrilled to welcome Roll7 to the Private Division family. As a team passionate about action sports ourselves, seeing how Roll7 combines the thrill of competition with the zen of achieving flow-state in a videogame is remarkable, and we can’t wait to show the world this phenomenon with our release of OlliOlli World this winter.”
Roll7 CEO Simon Bennett said: “Private Division has been an incredible publishing partner for OlliOlli World, and we’re elated to continue to grow as a studio as part of the label. Private Division has empowered our amazing team to raise the bar on our creativity and scope for OlliOlli World. Joining the label puts us in a great position to continue to grow and to set our sights on achieving our ambition to become a pre-eminent global videogames developer.”
OlliOlli World is due out this Winter for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A specific release date hasn’t yet been announced for the game.
