Both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network suffered from significant outages when hacking group Lizard Squad DDOSed servers for both on Christmas Day. The latter faced substantially higher issues though as it went for several days with no service before Sony restored intermittent connectivity.
To reimburse consumers for the same, Sony announced on the PlayStation Blog that it would be offering an extension to PlayStation Plus subscribers. Those with an existing subscription would receive a 5 day extension. The extension will also apply to those who took up a free trial on December 25th.
“The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on the blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).”
Sony has also announced 10 percent discount on a purchase from the PlayStation Store for all PSN users. This will apply to a total cart purchase so you can pick up multiple items and still receive the discount. Thoughts on Sony’s drive to reimburse consumers? Let us know in the comments.
