Joining systems as illustrious as PS Vita, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS, the PS3, another system that is all but discontinued at this point (it even stops getting PS Plus games starting next month) has randomly received a system update today. Update 4.84 (it’s funny how PS3 never got beyond the 4.00s) is available to download now, and as you may expect from a late life update like this one, it does a whole lot of nothing.
Officially, this is a stability and security update, which means we can presumably expect some things to have been patched up in the background. However, there is no meaningful change to the front end whatsoever, and you will notice no difference whatsoever to your PS3 experience. One has to assume Sony has ceased any meaningful development on the PS3 OS, and I do wonder why they even bothered pushing this update out.
If you wish to download this update, go into system settings, and update the system software.
