The PlayStation 4 recently launched in South Africa and surprise, surprise, the console is already sold out. Having launched at midnight on December 12th, Sony’s next gen console managed to sell out within 24 hours according to South African distributor Ster Kinekor Entertainment. This makes it “the fastest selling console in Ster Kinekor Entertainment history” according to the company.
CEO Mario Dos Santos stated that, “It has been an interesting road full of surprises this last year in the lead up to the PS4 announcement and we are ecstatic that we’ve broken a SKE record with these sales thanks to our loyal customers and stakeholder support. The demand continues to overwhelm supply, but we’re working extremely hard to get PS4 consoles into the hands of customers as quickly as possible.”
The PS4 was also the top-selling console in North America according to the NPD’s November report, and has sold 2.1 million copies worldwide as of last week.
