PS4 Worldwide Shipments Cross 94 Million Units

On track to hit Sony's 17.5 million shipments forecast for the financial year.

While Nintendo had to lower their forecasts for worldwide shipments of Switch units for the current fiscal year, Sony looks to be on track for its target of 17.5 million worldwide PS4 shipments in FY 2018-19, which ends March 31st. In their recently released earnings report for Q3 of the current fiscal year (ending December 31st), Sony revealed that the PS4 is well on track to achieve its target.

During Q3 of the year, the PS4 shipped 8.1 million units worldwide, bringing its lifetime shipment figures up to 94.1 million units (out of which 91.6 million have been sold through to consumers). An increase in software sales (doubtless due to the releases of the likes of Spider-Man) saw an increase in sales year on year. However, operating incomes saw a decrease, due to the fact that the PS4 is entering its twilight years, and sales have begun to slow down.
