If there were ever any doubts about the marketability of Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man, they’ve been put to rest. Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed that the open world action-adventure sold 3.3 million units worldwide from September 7th to 9th. Not only did it break the record that SIE Santa Monica’s God of War had set (3.1 million units sold in three days) but this now makes Spider-Man the fastest selling PS4 exclusive till date.

Sony also noted that one million units had been pre-ordered, setting another record for the company in the process. It should be noted that the sales figure did not include the limited edition “Amazing Red” PS4 bundles that included the console, DualShock 4 controller and the game for $399.99.

According to USA Today, Sony’s global senior vice president of sales Stephen Turvey said, “Our expectations are always set at the highest levels. It’s met and exceeded all expectations. I think the company, and the campus, and our fans are super proud of it.” He also praised Insomniac and Marvel for “bringing Spider-Man back to gaming in a way that you want to experience it.”

Spider-Man set a record at launch in the UK by becoming the fastest-selling game in the region for 2018, and has maintained its top spot despite competition from the likes of Shadow of the Tomb Raider and NBA 2K19. You can check out our official review of the game here.
