SIE Santa Monica's magnum opus achieved this feat in just three days since launch.

SIE Santa Monica has already racked up tons of critical accolades with God of War on PS4 and the sales have been just as amazing. On the PlayStation Blog, Sony announced that the exclusive sold over 3.1 million units in the first three days of launch. This makes it the “fastest selling PS4 exclusive” ever, beating out the likes of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

Santa Monica studio head Shannon Studstill issued a statement on the sales: “I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play.

“I’d also like to thank our Creative Director, Cory Barlog, and Director of Product Development, Yumi Yang and our entire amazing team at Santa Monica Studio. The belief in the game’s vision and the passion for storytelling across the team is undeniable. We look forward to hearing more about how fans are creating new memories of their favorite God of War gameplay moments that will be remembered for a long time.”

In development since 2014, God of War changes many fundamental aspects of the series. Protagonist Kratos is older and traveled to Midgard following the destruction of Olympus. He embarks on a journey with his son Atreus to spread the ashes of his second wife Faye on the highest peak. Along with a heavier emphasis on cinematic presentation with its one-shot takes, God of War significantly revamped the combat to be less Devil May Cry-esque and more personal with new weapons, abilities, RPG-like customization and so on.

These changes seem to have worked as God of War received tons of acclaim for its story, gameplay and combat. You can check out our official review of the game here to see what’s so impressive about it.
