Game Worlds Feeling “Alive”
As game worlds have become bigger over the years, one thing that’s obvious is that size isn’t the be-all, end-all standard. Instead, it’s about making the world feel alive. More interactions with different objects, the effect of weather on the environment and player, more characters with nuanced routines and so on are going to contribute to making worlds feel more vibrant and lived in. Various strides have been taken in this regard across upcoming games, whether it’s Forza Horizon 5’s different weather conditions for different parts of the map, enhanced destructibility in Battlefield 2042 and so on.
