PS5 Crosses 1 Million Units Sold in the UK

The PS5 has been riding an unbelievable wave of success since it launched in November of last year, having broken sales records with surprising regularity and showing no signs of stopping. Unsurprisingly, its global success has been reflected in the UK as well.

As per data released by the Gfk (via GamesIndustry), the PS5 crossed 1 million units sold in the UK as of August 28. That makes it the fastest-selling PlayStation console in the UK to date, having hit that milestone three weeks faster than the PS4 did. While a lack of stock had initially affected the console’s sales, several resupplies over the last few months helped propel it to much faster sales.

For the month of August, which saw a total of 151,500 consoles being sold in the UK, the PS5 was the best-selling machine of the lot, with the Nintendo Switch trailing behind, and the Xbox Series X/S taking the third spot. In total, over 1.4 million consoles have been sold in the UK in 2021 so far, which is a third more than console sales at this point last year.

The PS5’s worldwide shipment numbers currently stand at 10.1 million units. It recently crossed the 1 million units mark in Japan as well.
