It’s fair to say that PlayStation hasn’t been a dominant force in Japan for some time now, with Nintendo having enjoyed the lion’s share of the market in the region for several generations running, but even so, Sony’s platforms continue to enjoy at least a moderate amount of success. The PS5, for instance, has hit another sales milestone in Japan.

As per recently released weekly Japanese sales data from Famitsu, the PS5 sold over 33,000 units in country the week ending September 1, taking its lifetime sales total in Japan to over 6 million units. Interestingly, this was the last week before a significant price increase came into effect for the console and its accessories, which means we can likely expect relatively lower sales at least in the immediate future.

Reports have been mounting that Sony is set to unveil the PS5 Pro, with the company also set to have a presence at Tokyo Game Show later this month. Stay tuned for more details on what that entails.
