Rising prices have been a consistent issue with the ongoing generation of consoles, and it doesn’t look like that problem is going away anytime soon. Sony has, in fact, announced yet another price increase for the PS5 and its supporting hardware in Japan.

In a Japanese PlayStation Blog post, citing “recent changes in the global economic situation and other severe external environments”, the company announced price increases for all PS5 models, the PlayStation VR2, all DualSense controller variants, the PlayStation Portal, and more. The new prices will go into effect starting September 2.

Following this fresh round of price increases, the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition will both see an increase of ¥13,000 in retail price, going up to ¥79,980 and ¥72,980 respectively. The PS VR2, meanwhile, goes up to ¥89,980 after a ¥15,000 increase, the PlayStation Portal climbs up to ¥34,980 after a ¥5,000 increase, and the DualSense’s price goes up to ¥11,480 after a ¥2,000 increase.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Sony increasing prices in Japan. In 2022, citing “high global inflation rates” and “adverse currency trends”, the company raised hardware and accessory prices for PlayStation in Japan, among several other countries.
