PS5 Will Have A “Small” Mid-2019 Reveal, Followed By Full Blowout At PSX 2019 – Rumour

According to a leak, Sony is gearing up to announce its next generation home console.

Sony recently dropped the bombshell that they won’t have a presence at E3 next year at all, which is going to be the first time that happens in the history of E3. It’s a huge decision, and when asked about why they’re choosing to take the year off, Sony said, “We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

Now, the same person who leaked on Reddit beforehand that Sony would be making this announcement is claiming that Sony will instead by revealing the PS5 in the middle of next year with a “small reveal”, which will be followed by a full-blown reveal at the end of the year when Sony returns for PSX, following a year off for that as well this December.

What’s more, the leaker also claims that most developers already have development kits for the PS5, and that “it’s a monster”. Allegedly, Sony’s skipping E3 2019 next year for the same reason they’re skipping PSX this year- because they’ve already shown everything they had to show. Which makes perfect sense- but why not reveal the PS5 at E3, in that case? Because, as per the leaker, they want to reveal it in full at PSX 2019.

“PS Experience returning,” the person said on Reddit. “Most devs already have dev kits for PS5 (spoiler: it’s a monster), Sony prepping hard for PS5, and one of the reasons for no E3 next year is because they blew all their load this year and got nothing new to show next year (they want to show new stuff at PSX).”

When asked further about the nature and timing of the PS5’s reveal, the leaker said that it would be similar to how Sony handled the PS4. “Small reveal mid 2019, big one at PSX,” they said, before adding, “Plans might change though.”

Considering that most seem to believe that 2020 is when the PS5 will launch (which makes perfect sense, in my view), it stands to reason that a reveal would be coming in 2019. So yes, it makes sense that Sony could be doing a “small” reveal for the console in the middle of next year, followed by a full reveal at PSX in December 2019.

It’s not controversial to say that a PS5 is inevitable, something that Sony’s CEO Kenichiro Yoshida himself said not so long ago. On top of that, recent reports also suggested that Sony was gearing up for a full fledged marketing campaign for the PS5, while just yesterday, we wrote a report on Square Enix having possible started working on a “new AAA PS5 title” as well. Meanwhile, some of the patents Sony has recently filed might also clue us into what their next console could have in store for us.
