id Software’s Quake Champions is an intriguing mix of new and old. It returns to the arena shooter days of the franchise while remaining exclusive to PC but also incorporates a class-based collection of Champions with different abilities.

In a new video, id Software director Tim Willits talks about the difference between each Champion and how some of them call back to older Quake characters like the Ranger and Visor. Two new Champion have also been introduced with Nyx and Scale Bearer. Each one has a unique ability that suits a different role in battle. Visor can show enemies through walls while Nyx phases over short distances allowing her to get in, hit enemies, and get out very quickly.

Quake Champions currently doesn’t have a release date and its exclusivity to PC ensures blazingly high frame rates for hardcore arena shooter fans to enjoy. What are your thoughts on the new Champions? Let us know in the comments.
