#6. 2016

By 2016, the eighth console generation had well and truly settled into the groove. The PS4 had started churning out excellent first party exclusives, and while the Xbox One was still struggling on that front (and would continue to do so for most of its life), both consoles were routinely seeing excellent third party releases as well.

2016 wasn’t nearly as memorable of a year as the one preceding it was (and we’ll get to that in just a bit), but it still delivered some of the best games we’ve ever played. Uncharted 4, Overwatch, Dark Souls 3, Stardew Valley, and Inside are games that rank as some of the best we’ve played this entire generation, while others such as Forza Horizon 3, Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, Dishonored 2 and The Witness are also going to be fondly remembered for many years to come.
