#4. 2015
This was the year when the PS4 and Xbox One truly came into their own. Some of the best games, not only of this console generation, but of all time, came out in 2015, and will be regarded as such for years to come. The Witcher 3 came along and shot CD Projekt RED to global fame, immediately setting a new standard for open world RPGs, choice and consequence mechanics, and storytelling in games.
Bloodborne launched to rapturous success, earning plaudits left and right for its spectacular combat, boss design, worldbuilding, and art style, and to this day is considered FromSoftware’s best game ever. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain may have had a litany of issues, but its incredible systemic open world and emergent stealth gameplay took our breath away. And then there were others like Fallout 4, Rocket League, Super Mario Maker, Ori and the Blind Forest, Batman: Arkham Knight, Forza Motorsport 6, Mortal Kombat X, and DiRT Rally, all of which excelled in various ways and provided countless hours of solid entertainment.
