Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC And Remake Details Were Fake, Admits Leaker

The leaker says he wanted to experiment with game culture or... something.

Red Dead Online

Yesterday came the rumor that there would be alien-themed DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2 and that there was a remake of the first game apparently in the works. Today, though, the original source of that leak came forward to admit it was all made up.

In a long, somewhat disjointed, Reddit post the original anonymous leaker said that he did it as an experiment of some sort to prove that video game news websites, like this one, report on video game rumors. But it’s hard to pin down exactly, since he mentions at one point that he did it because he felt the games online counterpart, Red Dead Online, was basically being ignored. Though how spreading a fake rumor about single player related content really had anything to do with that, I’m not sure. You can read the explanation here.

It doesn’t seem like the person was trying to be mean-spirited or out to make any kind of real grand point in the end. But yes, often times gaming websites, especially smaller ones that often have to produce a lot of content to continue to survive, will report on rumors about one of the biggest games in the industry. As long as those rumors are marked clearly and precisely as speculation, as we do here at GamingBolt, I don’t think it matters. But your mileage may vary on that.

Either way, DLC or not, Red Dead Redemption 2 is, for real, available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
