With the upcoming Resident Evil 3 remake, Capcom are expanding upon the 1999 original in nearly every way possible, much like they did with Resident Evil 2 last year. One of the things they’ve talked about quite a bit that will see significant upgrades in the remake is Raccoon City, which, allegedly, has been given a major, major facelift.

According to Capcom, Raccoon City is going to be much larger in the remake, and will allow for much greater exploration than it did in the original game, and recently, speaking in an interview with the Official Xbox Magazine (issue 188), producer Peter Fabiano talked about that once more, re-iterating that though it won’t, of course, be open world, Raccoon City is still going to be “way more fleshed out” and will allow for much more exploration.

“You can explore a lot more of Raccoon City this time,” said Fabiano. “We have built it from the ground up, there is some reference here and there to the original, but it is Raccoon City reimagined. You can go into certain shops and see things you wouldn’t have been able to see before. It’s not an open-world game, don’t get me wrong, but you can explore a lot more.”

“Hopefully, fans of the original will be very impressed by the reimagined Raccoon City,” he continued. “It’s way more fleshed out, there’s a huge attention to detail – you’ll notice posters throughout the city and all these little homages to the ’90s and the ’80s, these little touches we put in there.

“I think they’re really fun for someone who played the original and grew up during that period, and of course, even for newcomers it’s a little fun throwback, too.”

Resident Evil 3 is out for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 3- check out over a dozen minutes of gameplay footage through here, and a new video comparing the upcoming remake to the 1999 original through here. Meanwhile, it’s also looking like the multiplayer mode, Resistance, is going to have loot boxes. Read more on that through here.
